“Bush Administration Indicted For War Crimes!” Wouldn’t it be great if that headline were to become a reality? I can invision the headlines of every newspaper in the world. People across the globe would be thinking, “The Obama administration & the US justice department finally came to their senses…finally, they did what was right!” Spain, Switzerland and a few other nations are taking the necessary steps to file charges against Bush & Company. When will Lady Liberty, wake up, smell the coffee and get on board?
As well, the Center for Constitutional Rights released a recent survey showing that 67% of the American peoplewant Bush administration officials investigated regarding their role in torture. Over a third want to see prosecutions. In 1994, the United States ratified the internation law against torture. It clearly states, “No exceptional circumstances, whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture.” Every nation, that signed this Convention against Torture, “must prosecute anyone involved in complicity or participation in torture.”
Yet “Dubya” as he continuously thumbs his nose at America, admitted to ordering the use of waterboarding. He transparently makes this admission in his latest set of memoirs. In order to defend himself and avoid prosecution, Bush recently stated, ”I firmly reject the word torture.” I ask…is that supposed to make it alright? What happened to the “No man is above the law concept?” We, as Americans who genuinely love our country, must band together and demand that the US justice department seek indictments against all Bush administration officials. My follow-up article next week will tell you how you can particpate in this fight against overt injustice. God Bless America!
