saturday solidarity in springfield

Hundreds of protesters, including me, turned out in frigid temperatures last Saturday at the state Capital in Springfield to support labor rights.  Appropriately, statues of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. melded with demonstrators in support of labor movements across the country.

Particularily in Wisconsin where Republican Governor Scott Walker  is backing a proposal that would strip most public sector employees of their right to bargain for benefits.  Walker’s assault on the middle class brought out a variety of speakers, slogans, signs and chants such as, “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Scott Walker has got to go.”

Spirited exchanges among those with opposing views added to an already energetic and lively atmosphere.  An obscene spectacle of corporate-ass-kissing callous conservatives (see Blood on Their Hands by Forrest P. Redd) were proudly displaying placards which read, “Taxed Enough Already,” No Obamacare,” and believe it or not, “Wisconsin Labor Unions Equal Terrorists.”

Keep in mind of course that these are the same selfish Neanderthal slugs that thought George W. Bush was a better choice than John F. Kerry.  God bless the the labor unions that protect our future.  And God bless those who came out in support of them last Saturday.
